Use a keyboard or screen reader
Find controls, keep track of focus, and test complete tasks with your own assistive technology.
Keyboard basics
- Tab moves forward through available interactive controls; Shift+Tab moves backward.
- Enter activates links and many buttons. Space commonly activates buttons and checkboxes.
- Arrow keys work within controls that support them.
- Alt+Shift+A opens ADA Real where supported; system shortcuts can override it.
Keep focus visible
Look for the visible focus indicator as you move. Open Accessibility, enter the reading experience, and use its named controls to return. If focus disappears, becomes trapped, or jumps to an unexpected place, record the page and the sequence of keys that led there. Do not assume repeatedly pressing Tab will fix a trapped interaction.
Screen reader use
Use your normal browser and screen reader commands to navigate headings, landmarks, links, and form controls. The reading experience aims to present its active content without competing with the original view. Actual behavior varies by browser, screen reader, device, and page; test your important tasks with your own setup.
Mobile assistive technology
With VoiceOver, TalkBack, or other mobile accessibility services, find the Accessibility control and follow the announced labels. A website cannot reliably detect whether your operating-system screen reader is active. Read visible guidance, use the close or return controls, and report any focus or announcement issue with the device and browser.
Report a useful issue
Describe the goal, exact page, assistive technology and version if known, browser/device, keys or gestures used, expected announcement or action, and actual result. A short non-sensitive recording can help. Share passwords or private customer records only through an approved secure support process, never in an open chat.
